According to the ‘Shopping Index’, the annual study published by the Salesforce company, ‘online’ sales in Spain increased by 65% during the first quarter of 2021 compared to the same period in the previous year, being above the global average. With regard to these figures, the leap to the Internet as a virtual showcase to promote their products and increase their business possibilities becomes, for many companies, a true alternative to traditional commerce. The Local Council in Mijas, through the initiative ‘I am staying in Mijas’ by the Department for Commerce, has wanted to offer the entrepreneurs of our municipality one more option to improve their visibility facing potential clients. This is how ‘Mijas Marketplace’ was born, a totally free platform in which businesses and establishments can offer their products and services online. Those interested in being part of this initiative have until September 10th to register.
Presentation
On Thursday 12th, the plenary hall in the Mijas Town Hall hosted the presentation of this new digital platform to the local business owners, a project that the mayor, Josele González (PSOE), defined as a “pioneering initiative in the municipality, with which we will promote local trade ‘online’, since nowadays there are many businesses that diversify their market through the internet”. For her part, the councillor for Commerce in Mijas, Natalia Martínez (PSOE), pointed out that “the objective of the platform is, on the one hand, to digitize local companies in order to increase their sales and, on the other, to make all the shops in Mijas visible through an extensive directory”.
