After becoming runner-up in Spain for creative makeup, bodypainter Luisa Machen continues to put herself to the test. In July, Machen participated in the World Bodypainting Festival. An international contest in which the best makeup artists compete to find out who is the best in their category.
For 30 years, the competition, in which more than 100 people have participated per category, has been held in Austria, but due to the pandemic it has had to be online for the first time.
“I have been pleasantly surprised because being my first time in a professional contest and competing against participants from other countries who have been dedicated to this for many years, having come in at 24th place in creative makeup and 28th in face painting is wonderful, in addition, with this I also managed to enter the list of the top 30 best body painters in the world”, said Machen. As this contest was carried out online, the participants had to send a photo to the platform of the contest showing how their work was going every 15 minutes without any retouches so that the jury could examine them meticulously.
The organisation gave them the theme to be followed in the make-up process a few months ago so that they could build on the idea and collect the necessary materials. For the category of face painting, the theme chosen was world events. Machen stated: "I based my design on the printing revolution since I thought it would be something different", and explained that for the other category, that of creative makeup, it had to be makeup dedicated to wild fashion, and she opted "for something punky, a version of a current punk lady".
This work, according to the make-up artist, has been an ongoing project since October and has now reaped its fruits, "I am very satisfied with the two creations that I have presented, both with their cleanliness and technique", said Machen, who concluded assuring: "I have used quite difficult techniques, in addition, everything that this creation entails has been done by me, the costumes, the headdresses... I am delighted with the result".
