The animals, like us, are also suffering the effects of the pandemic, in fact, the associations and shelters of the municipality are going through very delicate moments, not only due to the lack of income, but also due to the shortage of volunteers. To remedy this problem, Bar Tuta in La Cala hosted last Saturday a charity event dedicated to raising funds for Animal Care España (ACE).
Throughout the afternoon, around a hundred attendees were able to enjoy games, raffles and entertainment, the proceeds of which were allocated to this association. "Right now with the current health crisis it is very difficult to move the association forward. We try to fight every day to continue our work because there are many abandoned animals that need our help", explained the president of Animal Care España, Fabienne Paques.
ACE currently has more than 450 dogs and over 100 cats in its facilities, a number that is increasing day by day, according to Paques: “We don't know what to do. Every day we find boxes left at our door with abandoned animals, people cannot care for them anymore and economically we are doing very badly, it is horrible”. This same situation also occurs in the rest of the animal shelters and associations of Mijas, and they are trying to find a solution as soon as possible thanks to the collaboration of the entrepreneurs. "Our regular clients have come to this charity event to support the association since every year we try to do something special to help them collect short-term funds for the care of these dogs and cats". said the owner of Bar Tuta, Mark Triver.
In addition to raising funds, another objective of this event was to attract volunteers, as animals require a lot of work and dedication and due to the coronavirus, the number of collaborators has decreased. According to one of the association's volunteers, Kurt Nachtegael: “it is impossible to continue without this type of events, and I know that for Fabienne it will be impossible to continue like this for two or three more years, because it is one thing for there to be a lack of funding, but another vital factor is that we have less volunteers”. Another of the volunteers, Veerle Deberume, concluded by stating: "this type of event is very important to us, and we are very grateful for all the help they are giving us".
