The vaccination centre hosted the inoculation of the second dose of the AstraZeneca vaccine after the waiting interval was shortened from 12 to 10 weeks

In Mijas, vaccination continues to advance even on weekends. For a few weeks, the Costa del Sol Health District has also vaccinated on weekends, days on which the second dose of the vaccine produced by the pharmaceutical company AstraZeneca is administered, which advanced the waiting time from 12 to 10 weeks due to the expansion of the Delta variant of COVID-19. Last Saturday 936 people were vaccinated.

On Saturday, nurses and members of the Red Cross had the specific collaboration of the volunteers from the Apaffer association. According to the president of the association, Mercedes González, “the Las Lagunas Health Centre contacted us through the coordinator of the vaccination programme, Miguel Gallardo, to ask for our collaboration since many people were going to get vaccinated on Saturday, and it was the members who, without hesitation, made themselves available to the centre for whatever was needed”.

The work of these women consisted of guiding the people who came to the vaccination post after having received an SMS summoning them. For his part, Gallardo said: “to all the people and groups that collaborate with us in the logistics and coordination of the entrance to the vaccination centre, or even inside, we can only thank you for your great support and solidarity in these moments". The main objective is that they be dynamic days on which it is intended, thanks to the coordination of the volunteers, that queues are not long, since the vaccine is something awaited by many people, as some of those who went to be vaccinated explained to us: "The only solution I see for this is that we all get vaccinated, both young and old, and we should not be afraid of it because this is a vaccine like any other”, said Antonio Baeza. On her part, Maite Cortés concluded by commenting: "as it is assumed that it does take effect until 15 days later, we must continue to be cautious even if we are vaccinated".
