The new directive board of the Mijas Pueblo Merchants Association, renewed just a few weeks ago, has transferred its main concerns and proposals to the government team on Tuesday to improve the commercial activity of the Mijas Pueblo nucleus. At the meeting, up to six councillors were present, in addition to the mayor Josele González (PSOE). “From Tourism, Public Roads and Commerce, to Street Cleaning, Culture and Festivities. All those of us responsible for councils that, in one way or another, affect the holding of municipal events, the daily management of the village, or issues that have to do with each of the commercial activities that are present in the association, have wanted to be present”, highlighted González.

The Mijas Pueblo Merchants Association currently has one hundred members. Martín Gómez presides over the new board of directors, which he has taken on with enthusiasm and a great desire to work. “We have already designed a roadmap and we are very clear about the needs of Mijas and its entrepreneurs. The most important thing is to promote union among all the merchants because jointly, we can go much further than individually”, said Gómez.

For his part, the councillor for Tourism, José Carlos Martín (C's), assured that “merchants have taken advantage of this time in which their activity has been further paralyzed to gather ideas and suggestions that we share today and that, from the administration, we will assess to try to promote them in a short period of time”.

Among the proposals, the group of merchants has insisted on the importance of continuing to create promotional campaigns, both for businesses and for the village itself. "Today there has been talk of many issues, in terms of aesthetics, in terms of public transport, even looking for genuine locations in Mijas Pueblo", said the mayor, while the councillor for Commerce, Natalia Martínez (PSOE), added that "Initiatives are also being considered to value the gastronomy, culture, leisure or nature of Mijas, among others, and it is essential that we also promote public-private collaboration to achieve these objectives”.

Although in recent weeks an improvement has been noticed in terms of the arrival of visitors to Mijas Pueblo, the target is already the 2022 season. This is what both merchants and the Town Hall are aiming towards.
