The La Cala market will be opened at night

  • This is an initiative that is motivated by the request of the street vendors.

During the summer months, the stalls will open on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm and from 8 pm to midnight

Starting on Saturday 3rd, the market at the La Cala fairgrounds will also be opening at night. During July, August and the first week of September, the booths will be in this location in their usual hours, on Wednesdays and Saturdays from 9 am to 2 pm and, also, those same days of the week, from 8 pm to midnight.

This is an initiative that, according to the mayor Josele González (PSOE), and the councillor for ‘Mercadillos’ (Markets), Verónica Ensberg (PSOE), is motivated by the request of the street vendors themselves, who see that the high summer temperatures can reduce sales if the market is opened only in the hottest hours of the day. “These merchants are going through a bad situation due to the pandemic and from the Local Council we want to support them.

Neighbours and tourists will be able to take advantage of the cooler hours of the day to go to La Cala, enjoy the town, take a walk through the market and find unique items”, Ensberg commented. For his part, the mayor pointed out that “this is a historic request. The Council has been working on it for a long time”.

The Energy Efficiency Department has equipped the fairgrounds with lights so that the stalls are illuminated when the sun goes down. “We have placed 40 posts in the La Cala market area, with 14 electrical panels, which will supply 80 posts. In addition, 200-watt LED lights have been incorporated”, pointed out the councillor responsible for the area, José Carlos Martín (Cs).
