Seven new Local Police Agents took office on Thursday 1st, along with an Officer who has been promoted, in a ceremony that took place at the Town Hall. Chaired by the mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE); the councillor for Human Resources, Laura Moreno (PSOE); and the Chief of the Local Police, Juan Manuel Rosas; it was celebrated one year later than it was due to the health pandemic. A fact that the Local Government  wanted to remedy with an emotional and family event, which the mayor commented saying: “it is an act that should have been held during the year of the pandemic, but we understood that, although late, it was absolutely fair for them to be officially welcomed as it represents the great effort they have undertaken to reach here”. After a minute of silence in honour of the Marbella police officer Fernando Domínguez, who died of COVID, a small and family ceremony began where the agents swore their posts and promised to work for and ensure the safety of the residents and visitors of the town. Likewise, the Chief Intendant of the Local Police assured that “most of the people who apply to become local police officers do so because they feel a great vocation and, as a vocation that it is, we know that they are going to give everything they have, as they are doing, with great interest and concern, to improve security in Mijas”. This opinion was confirmed by one of the new Local Police agents. “We are very satisfied because today is the culmination of many years of study and preparation and it is very gratifying to be able to serve others with our daily work”, he said.
