Agents of the National Police, within the framework of the Modena operation against illicit vehicle trafficking, in the province of Malaga, have carried out a police operation in which fourteen people have been arrested, members of a criminal organisation specialised in the theft of high-end vehicles, mainly in the towns of Mijas and Marbella, to later sell them in parts to Eastern European countries. This network is attributed to at least 56 robberies over a period of approximately six months. Its members stole the vehicles through the use of sophisticated technical measures. They have stolen vehicles for a total value of 3,250,000 euros.
Part of the organisation was dedicated to locating the vehicles that would be stolen, generally, on public roads. After the theft, they were taken to 'cooling' points and then transferred to one of the warehouses that the organisation had rented, and in which professional mechanics worked, who dismantled the vehicles to later be reassembled in the country of destination, or to sell the parts. In one of the registered warehouses, a trailer truck was intervened, which was used for the transport of the parts and whose destination was Ukraine. The merchandise was covered by falsified invoices from different scrapyards, with headquarters in Malaga.
This investigation began in March, with the detection of a similar ‘modus operandi’ in the execution of several robberies. After an arduous investigation the perpetrators could be identified. These people were part of an organisation that was already investigated in 2019 for activities of the same nature.
The detainees were placed at the disposal of the judicial authority, accused of the crimes of robbery, belonging to a criminal organisation and documentary falsification, having decreed preventive detention for two of them and also for a third with two search warrants pending for entry into prison for other crimes.
