Last summer, for the first time, the Entrerríos youth hostel remained closed due to COVID-19 prevention measures

It is one of the oldest municipal facilities in the municipality, with more than 30 years of history, welcoming within its walls thousands of children who have enjoyed holidays in contact with nature here. Last summer, for the first time, the Entrerríos youth hostel remained closed due to COVID-19 prevention measures. Fortunately, this year the summer camps are back in operation at the farm school. The first shift will arrive at the hostel from Monday, with 50 children who, for a week, will be in contact with the animals, practice sports, enjoy the pool or learn the ins and outs of planting in the garden. “The Entrerríos hostel is a municipal emblem and is one of the few hostels that remain in the province managed by the Town Hall itself. That means that, due to the history and the path it has followed, we have to make an effort on the part of the government team to continue maintaining it”, said the mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), who visited the ‘Albergue’ on the morning of Thursday 24th, to check the improvements made.

Improvements The Hostels and Operational Services departments have planned comprehensive and partial renovations that have included changes to the doors and windows, new paint for the sports courts and the interior and exterior walls of the facilities, or the new furniture for the dining room and workshop rooms. “The accesses to the stable and other points of the hostel have also been repaired with new concrete flooring, thus improving the accessibility of all children with reduced mobility, who will also have a changing room adapted to their needs and a hydraulic chair for access to the pool”, explained the councillor for Hostels, Natalia Martínez (PSOE). Likewise, a new cabin has been installed, the tiling of various areas such as the dining room or bedrooms has been replaced, gardens and vegetable plots have been cleaned up and the walls have been embellished with murals and a new ceramic poster made by local artist Pepe Almirón. “The hostel had to be given a boost because it had not been thoroughly refurbished for many years and, above all, improved electrical installations. The wiring that it had has been changed, led spotlights have been installed that are more modern and consume less, and this is the trend in all municipal buildings”, explained the councillor for Operative Services, José Carlos Martín (Cs).
