The Mijas Felina association held a solidarity event last Saturday to raise funds to help feral cats, with a craft market and a buffet. The group continues to ask for everyone's help since their work never stops, and so far this year they have castrated 350 cats and given 180 up for adoption.
"Obtaining resources for the castration of cats, feeding the wild colonies, and caring for abandoned kittens is a great effort and investment for Mijas Felina", according to Manuela Bernardo, secretary of the association, "we have to continue with this work", she added.
The event consisted of a charity craft market where we could find everything from gastronomy, crafts, decoration, clothing made for the occasion, second-hand objects, raffles and lotteries. All efforts were made to attract and achieve the collaboration of participants. On this occasion, Club Miraflores restaurant, the establishment where the event was held, also collaborated. “We wanted to collaborate with the cause by opening the restaurant and offering the establishment for the event. We offered a buffet menu, setting aside 3 euros for the association from each ticket”, pointed out Jasmin Pishtovchyan, in charge of the restaurant.
Manuela Bernardo wanted to take advantage of the moment to “thank the veterinarians who offer us special prices, as otherwise we could not attend to the cats, and also all the people who have contributed items to be sold at the market and the volunteers, not forgetting Club Miraflores for providing this pleasant and beautiful place”, said the secretary of the group.

Mijas Felina recalls that there are many ways to collaborate with the association, from volunteering to help feed the colonies, buying food, items needed, or participating in events, to becoming a member for 5 euros per month. Temporary foster homes were also sought among the attendees, while the cats found a permanent home, as they are caring for a large number of litters at the shelter.

The Town Hall also encouraged the collaboration of all citizens and recalled the important role played by these animal groups, which currently also receive municipal subsidies.

Finally, the president of Mijas Felina, Cristina Sánchez, insisted: "the best advice is to sterilize all cats, to ensure that they stay at home, where they will stay and live happily".
