The objective is to avoid traffic saturation and offer a more sustainable service

The Mijas Town Hall resumes the shuttle bus service between the El Puerto quarry and the village centre to avoid the accumulation of vehicles. The line entered into operation on June 15th and will be active until September 15th. The bus schedule is uninterrupted between 11:00 and 14:00 and from 15:00 to 00:00, with a frequency of every 20 minutes, every day of the week.

From the Department for Mobility and Transport they announce that the service will be doubled at specific moments for events or on days when more visitors are expected. According to the area councillor, Nicolás Cruz (PSOE), “we resumed the shuttle bus service, looking forward to the arrival of tourists and visitors to Mijas and in anticipation of upcoming events in Mijas Pueblo. The bus is free and its objective is to decongest the centre and offer a more sustainable service”.

As a novelty, this year two models of bus will be used: the traditional large one with 55 seats, which has air conditioning, accessibility for people with reduced mobility, filters and a disinfection system, and a smaller one, with greater flexibility, for week-days or in the afternoons. In this way, the Town Hall aims to adapt the service to real needs and demand.

The arrival of tourists is the Local Council's priority objective during the high summer season. Now, after the opening of borders and the relaxation of limitations, it is expected that national and international tourists will once again include Mijas among their favourite destinations. The tourism sector also expects a "gradual recovery as regards the arrival of tourists, both international and national, since everything is relaxing, and Mijas is one of the preferred destinations, for example, for cruise passengers and other sectors", assured Juan Antonio Jiménez, manager of Autobuses Paco Pepe, who added that "we must also highlight the commitment of the Town Hall to a more sustainable service".
