  • The Viogenex group has met in person after a year.

This working group helps foreign women who are victims of gender violence in the municipality

After more than a year without face-to-face meetings due to the pandemic, the Viogenex group (Gender Violence against Foreigners) met on Wednesday at the La Cala Cultural Centre, although during all this time its members have held online meetings.

The objective of this morning’s meeting was to monitor the current actions regarding public awareness campaigns and to study the situation of active cases. Representatives of the Civil Guard, the SIMA department of the Local Police, Soroptimist International Costa del Sol, Age Care, the Lions Club, the Mijas Red Cross and the Education, Equality and Foreigners Councils of the Town Hall participated in the meeting.

It was a meeting marked by the health situation and the cases that it may have caused, as stated by the councillor for Foreigners, Arancha López (Cs): “today we have finally been able to meet in person again and share all the information we have, in order to continue providing the best service possible”. The meeting ended with the conclusion that “fortunately, there has not been a large increase in cases. There have been specific moments, but the trend practically remains the same. The number remains the same and the attention and the action protocols remain attentive as always”, the councillor highlighted.

López recalled the extreme vulnerability of the group of foreign women who, in Spain, do not have the support of their family network and have not yet mastered the language to be able to seek help. For this reason, she reiterated that there is a telephone service on number: 900 200 999, which is open 24 hours a day, answering in 46 languages and available to all women who need it.

Regarding the future of Viogenex, “we have ideas to continue providing those services and to improve them, since we are always focused on increasing the aid to cover all the needs of the foreign victims of gender violence in the municipality”, they assured.
