After 20 days of work, La Lucera beach now boasts a new breakwater wall, which has been executed by the department for Beaches, and replaces an old structure. "With the storm Filomena, the previous breakwater wall, that was already damaged, collapsed and the supply lines in the area were exposed and at that moment it was decided to change the format", explained the Beaches councillor, José Carlos Martin (Cs).
The new wall, whose investment amounts to 40,000 euros, is 110 metres long and 3 metres high and runs along the entire mouth of the stream. "The old wall did not have enough capacity to retain the land, as we learned with the heavy rains, and now it has a breakwater of 300 cubic metres", said the councillor.
To build this wall, as stated by the councillor for Beaches, the authorization of the Regional Environment Council has been necessary and it represents a technical and aesthetic advance. "It improves security because in the event of a flood, the wall will not give way, as this is also the only pedestrian access to the beach. From a functional point of view, it represents an important improvement and everyone who comes to our beaches is much safer now and, from an aesthetic point of view, the new breakwater wall gives it a different image than the way it looked with the previous wall”, highlighted Martín.
“This work on the La Lucera stream has had to wait due to the special circumstances that arose. We can now say that the storm damage is under control and very soon we will begin with the ‘Stream Cleaning Plan 2021’ to prepare for the winter rains”, Martín added.
Finally, the councillor pointed out that they are waiting for the authorization of 'Costas' to transport more sand to the beach of Calahonda, as was done a few weeks ago in El Torreón.
