The councillor for Works and Infrastructures of the Mijas Town Hall, José Carlos Martín (Cs), visited on Wednesday the works on the new El Juncal car park, which are now 98 percent finished, in fact, the trial period of the facilities has begun, "with the corresponding review of the fire detection systems, vehicle recharging devices, elevators and the electricity network, all to guarantee that the car park can begin to operate with total normality".
Martín recalled that this new space, which has entailed an investment of approximately 4 million euros, will offer up to 162 parking spaces, distributed over four storeys, including special width spaces for people with reduced mobility. "This building will provide a solution to the parking problems that have been suffered in this neighbourhood for years", said the councillor, who also pointed out that the period for residents to request one of the rental spaces will be opened shortly. Likewise, he added, "the procedures have already begun to select the company that will be in charge of the conservation and maintenance of the building, although the direct management of the parking will be the responsibility of the Local Council".
This new building will provide a solution to the parking problems that, for years, have been detected in this area of Las Lagunas. The councillor for Infrastructures also valued "the large leisure area that has been created on the upper level, with children's games and a multipurpose building to be used by the residents of Mijas and, in particular, of El Juncal". Above the car park, a large recreational area has been created for the neighbours.
La Candelaria parking
Regarding the La Candelaria parking works, Martín has advanced that they are in their final phase, meaning that, in the short term, Las Lagunas will be able to make a total of 668 new parking spaces available to residents. "The change for the residents is going to be considerable, not only because of the starting up of these parking buildings, but also because of the many empty spaces that all these cars will leave free on the streets", said Martín.
Finally, the councillor reported that the projects for three new car parks in Las Lagunas have already been drawn up, specifically, the ones that will be located in the Fernán Caballero park, the Andalucía park and in the Los Santos neighbourhood that will provide 1,252 more parking spaces in the urban centre. "We are working hard to fulfill our commitment and for these large-scale works to become a reality and, finally, we can see the results in El Juncal and La Candelaria", concluded the councillor.
