Mijas was already a benchmark last year for the measures implemented against COVID-19 on its coast

Since June 1st, the lifeguard device for the beaches in Mijas has been operational at 100%, which, this year, presents reinforcements and novelties. From Monday to Sunday, from 11 am to 8 pm, 53 lifeguards ensure the safety of bathers. For yet another year, Socorrismo Málaga is the company in charge of coordinating and managing this service. The councillor for Beaches, José Carlos Martín (Cs), highlighted on Tuesday 1st the start-up of the full-time service coinciding with the beginning of June and recalled that the Mijas coast already had a lifeguard service on weekends. “We have further strengthened the service we have been giving to our users. As a novelty, it is worth noting the incorporation of ‘life-saving drones’ which, according to the councillor, will allow us this season “to reach more beaches faster, in addition to the fact that there will be more watch towers”. This summer, the kilometres of coverage are extended, as well as including a fourth access for people with reduced mobility in Riviera. The technical equipment and vehicles stand out, with three jet skis, an ambulance, among other emergency utilities.
All measures are included in the Municipal Beach Rescue and Safety Plan, which includes a plan with contingency measures against COVID.
