Our municipality has obtained for this season three Blue Flags for its coastline

On Thursday the 3rd, Mijas was the stage chosen to carry out the ceremony of delivery of the Blue Flags in Andalusia, an act in which all the Andalusian municipalities that have achieved this distinction granted by the Association for Environmental and Consumer Education have been present (ADEAC), held at the Florida Mijas Beach facilities in La Cala. Our municipality has obtained for this season three Blue Flags for its coastline, on the beaches of La Cala-Torreón, El Bombo and Calahonda I-Royal Beach-La Luna. Likewise, Mijas has obtained the only ‘Centro Azul’ (Blue Centre) distinction for the Torreón beach and the ‘Sendero Azul’ (Blue Path) distinction, for the Coastal Path. During the delivery ceremony, Mayor Josele González (PSOE) highlighted the fact that Mijas was the host municipality for the delivery of the blue flags. “It is a pride to host these recognitions of excellence, to the best beaches in Andalusia, where Mijas is a true protagonist with those three blue flags, with that unique Blue Path in Malaga and the Blue Centre”, said the mayor, who added that he was grateful “for the commitment to Mijas and, at the same time, that they value the work we do from the Local Council to continue promoting the tourist image of our municipality with the 14 kilometres of coastline that are considered to be excellent, and are within these blue awards that are so important for us and for the projection of our city”. For his part, the councillor for Beaches, José Carlos Martín (Cs), pointed out that these distinctions “recognize the work that is being carried out, in which many departments participate. Congratulations to all those departments involved in having the beaches in such good condition and I am not forgetting the businesses owners, who also play an important role in these awards certifying the quality of our beaches”. Martín also recalled that this year the work has been arduous because the Mijas coast has suffered the effects of many storms this winter and spring, from which, according to the Beaches councillor, we have recovered in time to start the summer season in optimal condition.

Andalucía obtains, for the first time, 137 flags for its beaches

The Andalusian autonomous community receives in this year 2021 a total of 137 blue flags, beating its own record regarding this award. The beaches bring together 115 of these distinctions, 20 for marinas and two corresponding to sustainable boats. Regarding their distribution, Almería has managed to win 33 distinctions, Cádiz with 35, Huelva with 16, Granada with 12 and Malaga with 41, this being the province that accumulates the most blue flags in 2021. “For the first time Andalusia is the second Autonomous Community of Spain with the most Blue Flags, only surpassed by the Valencian Community. Furthermore, this year Andalusia has obtained 15 more Blue Flags than the previous year, I believe that never before has a community experienced this leap”, highlighted José Palacios, president of ADEAC.
