The councillor for Citizen Participation, Tamara Vera (PSOE) recalled last Wednesday that the Mijas Local Council has started a public consultation to decide the date of the second local holiday in Mijas. Residents can choose between July 25th, the day of Santiago Apóstol and the current date of the local holiday, and October 15th, the day of Santa Teresa de Jesús, patron saint of La Cala. The councillor explained that all those citizens of Mijas interested in doing so can participate in this vote in two ways. The first, in ‘online’ format, through the digital platform https://participa.mijas.es, and the second, by casting a vote in one of the ballot boxes that have been placed for this purpose in the Mijas Town Hall, the branch offices in La Cala and Las Lagunas, and in the Cultural Centre in Las Lagunas. “We are noticing that citizens are showing great interest in this consultation and are approaching the offices to cast their vote. We have also received many comments on social networks asking about the issue”, said Vera. The councillor also recalled that face-to-face voting will be held until June 18th and in ‘online’ format until next June 21st. “When this period ends, we will check the results to ensure that only one vote per person is cast, that is to say, that the residents will not be able to vote in more than one office or use the two voting options”, she clarified. After this popular consultation, the municipal corporation will approve the date chosen in the ordinary plenary session to be included in the municipal calendar for 2022, together with the first local holiday in Mijas, on September 8th, the day of the patron saint, the Virgen de la Peña.
