The President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, announced in Fitur that Spain will allow the entry of vaccinated tourists from June 7th regardless of the place of origin. To this good news he added that travellers from European Union countries that are still in orange or red may enter Spain from the same date with a negative PCR or with a certificate of being vaccinated.
And from Monday, Spain has expanded the number of countries on which it lifts the restrictions imposed up to now to travel to Spanish destinations. These are ten important markets for this industry such as the United Kingdom, China, Australia, Israel, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, New Zealand, Thailand and Rwanda. This measure, according to the mayor of Mijas, Josele González (PSOE), entails a boost for local tourism. “It will mean the opening of one of our main tourist niches. The British love the Costa del Sol, they love Mijas and are looking forward to coming to our municipality, and it is true that until we eliminated that quarantine of almost ten days, we were hardly going to be a competitive destination having Portugal, for example, without any kind restriction”, highlighted the mayor.
On the other hand, as of July 1st, mobility within the EU will be guaranteed with the European Covid Certificate, which received the green light last week in Brussels. It consists of a QR code that collects if the citizen is vaccinated, immune or has a negative test. It will be free and will be issued by the Autonomous Communities. “However, outside the European Union we have a very important country for us such as the United Kingdom, so, obviously, what we would like and we all wish is that, in the next review that they make of the conditions, Spain will be allowed to open that option and that traveling to our country does not have any type of restrictions as we have done with them”, pointed out the councillor for Tourism in Mijas, José Carlos Martín (Cs).
Pedro Sánchez has assured that this summer, tourist destinations will recover between 30 and 41% of the international tourism that they registered before the pandemic, which, he pointed out, will mean the arrival of between 8.5 and 10 million foreign tourists this high season.
