CIOMijas is hosting since Monday a gardening course by Ferrovial, the company in charge of providing the service in the municipality. The initiative is part of the trade school launched by the Local Council and the company for its "corporate social responsibility", explained the councillor for Employment Promotion, Laura Moreno (PSOE). "I think it is very important that these companies can offer the Town Hall that disposition to provide courses for our unemployed", added the councillor.

The course is, above all, practical, although it also includes theoretical hours to teach the participants what they need to know. "The theoretical part will be developed at CIOMijas for 40 hours and the practical part for 80 hours, this being the one that will be carried out in the public gardens of Mijas", said Ferrovial's delegate for the Environment, Carlos Mora.

Although there were 90 applications, in total there will be  fifteen students attending this course until the beginning of July, since the places are reduced due to preventive measures against covid. "The objective would be for them to be sufficiently trained so that throughout the month of July, August and September, some of them, those who show greater skills and abilities, can be hired by our company to cover leaves, holidays or even some with contracts”, added Mora.

Occupational risk prevention, how to face a job interview, plant health, irrigation systems, or how to prune will be some of the basic topics discussed in this course that also aims to give 80 applicants a second chance who ran out of places in the gardening course within Mijas Impulsa. "We wanted, through Ferrovial, for them to be trained to enter the company job bank", explained the councillor.
