The CARP Mijas Dorronsoro joint venture (UTE) has been awarded the contract to draft the project for the High-Resolution Process Centre (CARP) to be built in Las Lagunas, which, as the Town Hall highlights, “will significantly improve healthcare provision in the municipality”. Mijas Town Hall has just formalised the contract for 447,700 euros, a sum funding the first decisive step for this facility: defining its layout and characteristics in terms of design, building volume and installations.
The CARP will offer cardiology, pulmonology, paediatrics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, dermatology, speech therapy, major and minor outpatient surgery, among other specialities, as well as midwives and a 24-hour emergency service every day. This healthcare centre will be able to cover 85 per cent of the municipality’s care demand, as noted by the councillor for Infrastructure, Juan José Torres Trella (PP).

The initial budget for this project stood at 625,000 euros, meaning the contract award price has been reduced by almost 30 per cent. The deadline for the Mijas Dorronsoro joint venture to draw up the construction project is 150 calendar days, broken down as follows: preliminary design (30 days), basic design (60 days) and detailed design and health and safety assessment (60 days).
Location
The future CARP will be built on the plot known as Parque de Las Lagunas II, bordered by Avenida Comares and Calle Algatocín, Calle Benajarafe and Calle Antonio García Moreno. As stipulated in the contract, the project must include a climatic and hydrological study of the area.

In addition to all construction and roadworks, it must also include landscaping, paving, public utility connections and the equipment necessary for its commissioning and handover for public use. The required geotechnical report on the land has already been carried out by Mijas Town Hall.
The work will follow the guidelines of Mijas Town Hall’s Infrastructure and Works Department, in coordination with the Andalusian Health Service (SAS) and Acosol, the company currently entrusted with Mijas’s water supply and sewerage services. The project will develop the explanatory memorandum and functional programme of needs approved by the SAS.
Sustainability
Regarding this functional programme, the project must define separate pedestrian access points for scheduled activity, emergencies, blood samples and extractions, as well as a dedicated area for use in the event of a health crisis, proposing a design that allows the centre to operate during public health alerts under strict control and restrictions.
Furthermore, the project must apply sustainable development criteria, limiting its energy needs for heating, cooling, domestic hot water, auxiliary energy and electricity in general. Similarly, it must ensure efficient resource management and minimal energy consumption.
Parking
In addition, the future CARP will feature an underground car park covering an area of over 12,000 square metres, as set out in the specifications.This car park will occupy the entire building plot on a single floor and will have capacity for around 400 vehicles, alongside another surface parking area on the unbuilt section of the plot to accommodate a further 150 cars.
