The Mijas Town Hall is "improving" and "facilitating" mobility and parking in the municipality with the new shuttle bus contract. This public transport service will run from the parking areas designated by the Town Hall to the centres of Mijas Village, La Cala and Las Lagunas, including return journeys.

This will provide a solution for travel from the designated parking areas, which are usually separate from the event venues, to the town centres. The aim is to ease traffic, reduce journey times, make mobility easier and prevent overcrowding.

The contract, awarded to the joint venture (UTE) Mijas Lanzadera 2026, comprising the companies Paco Pepe, Sierra de las Nieves, San Sebastián and Daga Portillo Hermanos, runs until December 2027 and has a budget of 497,174 euros. In addition, an optional two-year extension is planned until the end of 2029, meaning the total value of the contract would amount to almost one million euros if executed in full.

Timetable, stops and routes

As explained by Marco Cortés, the councillor responsible for Urban Mobility, services will be contracted for a minimum of four hours and will run at a continuous frequency adapted to demand and the department's specifications. If necessary, a system of timetables, stops and routes will be established.

Furthermore, shuttle services will generally be provided using vehicles with up to 55 seats. However, the contract allows for the use of larger or smaller vehicles whenever necessary, depending on the specific event and the expected number of passengers.

Special timetable for events

During June and July, the shuttle bus will operate for two hours longer each day compared to last year. In June, the timetable is from 11:00 to 17:00; and in July it will be from 10:00 to 13:00. However, from this Thursday 2nd until Sunday 5th, a special service will operate for the ‘Mijas with Soul by Candlelight’ event. Travel will be provided from 18:00 until 02:00, from the Puerto quarry to the centre of Mijas Pueblo, and there will also be connections from the Las Lagunas fairground, the La Cala fairground and the Osunillas Sports Centre to Mijas Pueblo, so that residents from other areas do not have to drive to the village.
