The 2026 Las Lagunas Fair has now begun, the first in the municipality, coinciding with the children’s summer holidays. The festivities in Las Lagunas kicked off on the evening of Wednesday 24th of June, a night brimming with enthusiasm and excitement during which attendees were able to enjoy the fairground rides at half price, 2.5 euros, to mark Children’s Day.
The evening got underway at 20:30 at the Municipal Booth with dance performances by the UP groups led by Feli Gabriel, who showcased their artistry and spread their joy from the stage with styles ranging from ballet to folk dance.
Switching on of the festive lights
At around 22:00, with the sun having set and the fairground filled with families and young people keen to have a good time, the official opening of the fair took place with the switching on of the festive lights by the local authorities, including the mayoress, Ana Mata (PP). It was a moment that generated great excitement among the large crowd gathered in front of the archway to watch the festivities come to life.
After the lights were switched on, the procession set off from the arch towards the Municipal Booth, where the government team raised a toast to the festivities and the mayoress, speaking from the Mijas Comunicación set, wished all the people of Mijas a happy fair. “Wishing everyone the very best, we’re kicking off the summer in the best possible way: with a fair that is all about togetherness, celebration, sharing and, above all, having a good time”, said the mayoress of Mijas, who encouraged all residents “to enjoy these days and, above all, a fair that takes place in the heart of Mijas, which has three fairs, but today it’s time to enjoy the one in Las Lagunas”. “I would also like to thank the Festivities Department, Operational Services, the Cleaning Department, the Local Police and the Fire Brigade, in short, everyone who works to ensure we can enjoy these festive days”, added Mata.
This was followed by the election of the King and Queen of the 2026 Las Lagunas Fair. After introducing themselves and parading on stage, Manuel Jesús Pancorbo and Mariela Valenzuela were chosen as king and queen of the festivities. Hannah López was crowned First Lady and Francisco Ramos First Gentleman of the Court of Honour.
Security measures
For these festivities, as in previous years, extensive security measures have been put in place, involving state security forces and bodies such as the Local Police, Fire Brigade, Civil Protection and the Red Cross.
Opposite the entrance archway, TuKaseta, located at Cortijo Don Elías and run by the El Juncal Neighbourhood Association, set the tone for the night with a performance by the artist Moni Kabana, who treated the audience to an evening of Latin music split into two sessions.
This first day of the fair, which was characterised by a family-friendly atmosphere, drew to a close with a performance by Lorenzo Molina at the Municipal Booth at midnight.
