There are just a few days to go until the Las Lagunas Fair 2026 begins! The countdown started last Saturday, 13th of June, in Andalucía Park, where Melody was tasked with delivering the opening address. She showcased her warmth, affection and, above all, gratitude towards the people of Las Lagunas and, Mijas as a whole, who welcomed her 20 years ago “with open arms”, as the speaker highlighted. The event, organised by the Festivities and Traditions Department of the Mijas Town Hall, was attended by a large crowd: residents of all ages, representatives of community groups and local authorities.
Melody, who took over from fellow artist, Isabel Guerrero, the outgoing speaker, began by noting: “It is an honour for me to be here this afternoon and to deliver this opening speech, which fills me with immense pride. I have to say I’m very moved, because for me this is my home, this is my family, these are my people”, said Melody, adding that “although life has given me the chance to travel and discover wonderful places, it’s been over 20 years since I chose Mijas to live, grow, build my home and my family; and to be part of this land that welcomed me with open arms”. “Here I have found neighbours who have become friends, families who greet me every day with a smile, corners full of memories and that beautiful way of life that is so uniquely ours, so close-knit, joyful and authentic”. Melody also noted that “Las Lagunas represents hard work and diversity; it is full of hard-working people who strive every day to provide for their families”.

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), emphasised that “we are lucky to have a neighbour like Melody who, moreover, is an internationally renowned artist doing a great job, a woman of great strength”. She added: “I believe all of us in Mijas should be very proud that she is our neighbour, carrying our name and land as her banner, making people get to know Mijas, come here and, above all, enjoy it”. Meanwhile, the deputy mayor of Las Lagunas, Eloy Belmonte (Vox), stated that “it is a source of gratitude and pride to have people like this in our municipality and, above all, in this neighbourhood. This fair has always given us so much: the chance to go as a family, to enjoy ourselves together, to have a good time, and, what’s more, it is designed for all ages, for adults and for children”.

Following the opening speech, Melody joined the mayoress and the councillor for Festivities and Traditions, Silvia Marín (PP), to unveil the fair’s poster, designed by Mijas Comunicación. “We’ve had a fantastic opening speech, enjoying two great artists: Melody and Isabel Guerrero on stage. It was clear that Las Lagunas is raring for the fair, eager to have a good time and enjoy itself”, said Marín, who added that “we’re going to have some great performances and lots of activities for the little ones and young people; in fact, we’re going to have a youth marquee with performances by local bands”.

Invitation
The crowd joined in showing their gratitude and affection to the speaker; after the event, Melody spent part of the evening with them, signing autographs and posing for photos. As expected, she gave a fine display of her talent, treating the audience to an a cappella snippet of her international hit, ‘Diva’, and at the end of her address, she performed one of her classic tracks, ‘De pata negra’, alongside the outgoing speaker.
The Festivities Department, the Mijas Town Hall, and Melody invite residents and visitors to enjoy the Las Laguna Fair. “The fair is much more than just rides, music or fireworks; it’s about coming together again, putting our worries aside to make room for joy”. “So I invite you to live these days to the full, to sing until you lose your voice, to dance without watching the clock, to laugh out loud, life goes by so quickly, to give each other lots of hugs and to fill every corner of La Laguna with joy”, concluded the town crier.
