On Monday 15th, near the Torreón de La Cala, the Mijas Town Hall launched the Local Police’s cycling unit, which will resume service during the peak months on the Mijas coast, enhancing safety for both residents and visitors.
The unit will consist of officers patrolling the Coastal Path and the municipality's main beach areas daily, carrying out preventive work, ensuring compliance with municipal bylaws, and monitoring activities that could affect community life and the enjoyment of these public spaces.

The councillor for Public Safety, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox), highlighted that this unit allows for a closer and more effective presence in one of the busiest areas during the summer. In this regard, he explained that “the presence of officers on the ground has a significant preventive effect and helps ensure that residents and visitors can enjoy our coastline with greater safety guarantees”.
Additional resources
Cuevas Dawson also pointed out that this initiative is part of the additional resources deployed by the Town Hall during the summer season, praising the work carried out by the Mijas Local Police. “We remain committed to providing our officers with the necessary resources to deliver the best possible service and to continue improving safety throughout the municipality”, he stated.

For her part, the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), welcomed the deployment of this team on the ground, calling it “highly positive because it can respond more quickly to any emergency”. In her view, “in summer, the number of people in the coastal area is much higher, as it increases not only due to tourism but also because Mijas residents themselves use and enjoy the beaches, and that makes it necessary for us to be more vigilant against any kind of incident through this patrol”.
Prevention
Meanwhile, the chief superintendent of the Mijas Local Police, Juan Manuel Rosas, stated that “the cycling unit provides us with great preventive capacity and an immediate response to any incident on the coast. Furthermore, it plays a vital role in tackling illegal street vending, unauthorised massages and ensuring compliance with municipal bylaws”.
