Throughout June, the Mijas Pueblo Tourist Office is hosting a new exhibition organised in collaboration with the Mijas Craft Association, dedicated this month to artistic glasswork. The showcase brings together creations by Jonatan Díaz and Sara Leguizamón, two craftspeople who work with the same material using completely different techniques and approaches.
The councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jerez (Vox), highlighted that this initiative continues to raise the profile of local talent while reinforcing the Tourist Office’s role as a showcase for Mijas craftsmanship. He also explained that the exhibition offers a chance to discover the vast creative possibilities of a material as versatile as glass. “We have two artisans using the same material but with entirely different techniques and results, making this exhibition a wonderful opportunity to discover the versatility and artistic value of glass", he noted.
The councillor also emphasised that these initiatives help enrich the municipality’s cultural offering and preserve traditional crafts that form part of the local heritage. “As well as bringing craftsmanship closer to residents and visitors, we are offering our creators a prime space to showcase their work and highlight the immense talent we have in Mijas", he said.

One of the featured artists is Jonatan Díaz, from Vitromar Vidrieras Artísticas, who is presenting a selection of works focused on stained glass and other innovative techniques. Among the pieces on display are portraits created using controlled fractures on the glass and a unique guitar transformed into an illuminated work of art.
The craftsman explained that his work combines traditional methods with contemporary concepts, preserving the essence of a centuries-old craft adapted to new artistic languages. “Glass is a material with infinite possibilities. It is a timeless art form that retains the essence of craft techniques used for centuries”, he emphasised.

Meanwhile, Sara Leguizamón is presenting a collection of works created using fused glass, primarily utilizing bottles and other recycled items transformed into decorative and artistic pieces. Her collection focuses on material reuse and sustainability through artistic creation.
The artisan pointed out that many of her works are born from everyday items destined for the bin, proving they can be given a new lease of life through craftsmanship. “The idea is to show that what we often consider waste can be transformed into a work of art. Besides creating unique pieces, we also help raise awareness about recycling and sustainability”, she explained.
With this new exhibition, the Mijas Tourist Office continues to cement its status as a promotional hub for local artisans, connecting residents and visitors with the work of professionals who keep an essential part of the town’s cultural and creative heritage alive.
