The Mijas Town Hall has put out to tender the repair works for the swimming pool roof at the Las Lagunas sports centre, a facility that “is currently closed to the public due to deterioration suffered since its last inspection over 20 years ago, in 2005”, the council states. With this initiative, the government team  emphasises that it is “making progress towards reopening a key facility for Mijas residents”. The works will have a completion period of six months.

Specifically, a budget of 1,284,541.67 euros, including VAT, will be allocated to the project, and the deadline for interested companies to submit bids is open until the 15th of June. The project has been drafted by Ingesa Ingeniería y Diseño, SL, and involves repairing damage to various components of the roof, such as auxiliary structural elements, sandwich panels, waterproofing systems and drainage systems.

Through this project, the Mijas Town Hall will guarantee the safety, watertightness and durability of the centre, which is showing corrosion in various areas of the structure’s columns and supports; rusting on certain fastenings; deterioration and leaks in the roof drainage system, gutters and downpipes; issues with the panel insulation, perforations in the panels forming the skylights and corrosion in air conditioning ducts.

The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), has praised municipal efforts to  restore this sports facility “in the face of neglect and abandonment by previous administrations, as no repairs had been carried out since 2005”. At the end of 2025, the consultancy firm Cemosa was commissioned to produce reports on the current state of deterioration.

  • Plano del proyecto.

The successful contractor will undertake the refurbishment of the roof’s supporting structure and auxiliary framework, replacing metal elements showing signs of corrosion, deformation or loss of load-bearing capacity. These works will be carried out selectively, preserving components in good condition and ensuring the structural integrity of the existing system.

Once the structural support has been refurbished, the new sandwich panels for the roof will be installed, in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications and the project requirements. The works include the positioning and fixing of panels, the creation of overlaps and the fitting of perimeter flashings and special components to complete the system. The swimming pool roof alone will see works covering a total area of 1,256 square metres.

  • El proyecto también contempla el saneo integral del techado del polideportivo y de la zona administrativa, en un total de 3.428 metros cuadrados.

According to the project drafted by the company Ingesa Ingeniería y Diseño SL, the works also include the refurbishment of the sports centre roof and the administrative area, which cover 2,172 square metres, bringing the total area of the works to 3,428 square metres.

The Town. hall emphasised that the planned works will not affect accessible routes, public facilities elements linked to the building’s accessibility. No changes will be made to ramps,  stairs, lifts, doors, walkways or public spaces.
