As happens every year after Christmas, blood reserves are reduced by half due to fewer donations during the festive period. Since blood is something that cannot yet be manufactured, the Regional Centre for Blood, Tissues and Cells of Málaga (CRTS) has issued an urgent appeal for citizens to donate.
Any of us could need blood at some point in our lives, so now is the time to show our most supportive side. One blood donation can save up to three lives. Blood donations are essential for surgical operations, to care for transplant patients or those undergoing chemotherapy.
Requirements
Donating is very easy. You must be between 18 and 65 years old, or even up to 70 if you are a regular donor, weigh more than 50 kilos and be in good general health. If you wish to help, you can visit the Malaga Blood Transfusion Centre from Monday to Friday or visit the mobile unit that will be set up in Las Lagunas on the 28th, at the cultural centre, from 17 to 21 hours, and on the 29th, next to the El Corte Inglés outlet from 10 to 14 hours and from 17 to 21 hours.
Reserves
Following the railway accident that occurred on Sunday in the Córdoba municipality of Adamuz, the Andalusian Health Service has urged the public to continue donating blood to meet the needs of the coming days. Health authorities say that the demand for blood for those injured in this fatal train crash "has already been met thanks to the immediate response from the public", but it is always important to maintain and reinforce reserves.
