On the initiative of the Cubanos Unidos association, in collaboration with the Mijas Town Hall, the Andalucía Park in Las Lagunas hosted the Somos Uno Festival during the Immaculate Conception long weekend to commemorate International Tolerance Day, an event that could not be held on the weekend of the 16th of November due to bad weather, but which the organisation decided to postpone. “We are trying to bring the Cuban community closer to our association by organising festivals where our culture blends with that of other countries”, said the president of the association, Mónica Delgado.

The event was attended by members of the local government, including the councillor for Public Roads, Melisa Ceballos (PP), and the first deputy mayor of Las Lagunas, Eloy Belmonte (Vox). “With this festival, we wanted to convey the unity of all countries, of those who come from abroad, of those who live here, because we all have the right to love each other, to care for each other, and to treat each other with love”, said Ceballos.
For his part, Belmonte added that the festival “is a mix of cultures and an example of the partnership and unity we have in Mijas with different towns. We have many nationalities living here, and everyone is welcome. On days like these, you can come and enjoy different food with your family, learn about other cultures, listen to other music...”.

For four days, Andalucía Park hosted this non-stop musical and gastronomic event, where attendees could sample typical dishes from nine countries, including Germany, Venezuela, Colombia, Morocco and Cuba.
The public welcomed this type of initiative, as expressed by Argentine Matías Ezequiel Maruchi: "This is my first time here and I think the festival is great. There's a really good vibe, lots of joy, the stalls are spectacular, there's everything to eat and drink, and there's plenty of partying, which is what matters".
Aisyah Ibrahim said she was "delighted, it brings a lot of life to the neighbourhood, people are really encouraged to go out, and it also gives an opportunity to the workers who offer their food".
Party with live music
Over the four days, there was plenty of music, entertainment, live performances and demonstrations of regional dances. Highlights included a tribute to the cha-cha-cha, performances by Peruvian singers Jorge Luis and Marquiños, Colombian Cristian Peña, Cuban Moni Kabana, flamenco singer Silvia Porras, and Spaniards Adri O & Hugo GZ with their urban style.
