On the 24th, 25th and 26th of October, the Virgen de la Peña square in Mijas Village will host the 7th edition of the Cheese and Wine Festival, an established event in the municipal calendar that will bring together around twenty exhibitors from the municipality’s hospitality businesses and cheesemakers from across the province.
The councillor for Public Roads, Melisa Ceballos (PP), and the councillor for Economic Development, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), presented the event on Thursday 16th, accompanied by some of the participants. Both councillors praised the commitment of these representatives of the Mijas hospitality industry to a gastronomic and tourist celebration that attracts locals and visitors throughout the weekend. “It’s a weekend to enjoy wine, cheese, but also ham and all the gastronomy of Mijas”, said the councillor for Public Roads. “Our traders are very important for the municipality, which is why we are opening our doors to them and letting them take centre stage at the event”, added Maldonado.

The hospitality establishments taking part in this edition of the festival include the bars Porras, La Plaza, Confusión, Radikal, Arancha, Bartolo, Las Tablitas, La Muralla, Chema’s Terrace, Corte de Autor, Alboka, El Obrador and Amor a Málaga.
Some are newcomers to the festival, such as Confusión and Corte de Autor: “We are going to bring our ‘carrilladas’ (beef cheeks), made with red wine from Málaga, giving them a taste of our land... we will bring our classics, but we are also going to innovate”, said Esteban Sedeño, from Confusión. “This is our first year. We’ll be bringing ham, the cured meats we work with, pork rinds from Cádiz, a few special treats and some wine”, added Elisabeth Alarcón from Corte de Autor.
There are also veterans. Chema Castellano, from Chema’s Terrace Restaurant, has been attending the festival for several years. On this occasion, they will “offer a standard house wine, accompanied by a tapa included in the festival’s basic price of 3.50 eurps, and then provide a selection of wines and a cava”.
Cheesemakers
In addition, there will be a strong representation of cheesemakers from different parts of the province; specifically seven leading producers: Buleri, Palencia García, El Pastor de El Torcal, Quesos Sierra Sur, Quesos Héctor Olmo, Cabraline and Quesería El Arquillo.
The event will also feature live performances. On Friday 24th, Alvarock will take the stage at 14 hours; at 17:30, the dance group led by Remedios Fernández will perform, followed by Mami Curl at 19 hour. On Saturday, the José Lucena flamenco company will perform at 12 hours followed by Ben ‘One man thousands voices’ (at 14 hours), Nico Sabatini (16 hours), Naked Covers (17 hours) and Los Fabrizzios (21:30 hours). On Sunday, the group Alejados will perform at 16 hours, and Alokados at 19 hours.
