For three days, La Cala de Mijas became the pantry and showcase for producers from Málaga. The event was so well received that it generated a turnover of more than 120,000 euros. In fact, according to the organisers, the Mijas edition ranks as the second highest turnover, only surpassed by the fair held in Rincón de la Victoria. This was the fourth time the event had come to the town. Another important aspect is the visibility it has given to the 36 participating producers from 20 municipalities, as well as to the local businesses in La Cala.
The mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), who highlighted the success of the event in its new location on the La Cala boulevard and the large turnout, emphasised the significant economic impact it has had. "The figure we had this morning (Monday 29th) is impressive, it represents an economic impact of 120,000 euros for these producers, who have the opportunity to showcase products made with great care and delicacy, while also maintaining the tradition of recipes handed down from great-grandmothers, some presented in a modernised way, others kept with the original secret and naturalness that characterises these products", she said.
The fair featured stalls selling oils, sweets, wines, cheeses, honey, cured meats, pickles and more. The event was so successful that, according to municipal sources, "several producers ran out of stock by Sunday". Mata pointed out one notable example: “A single producer sold 1,200 molletes (a type of bread) filled with Málaga cured meats”.

The mayoress of Mijas also highlighted another key aspect of this fair: its boost to commercial activity in the area. "The restaurants along the rest of La Cala boulevard also benefited from the people who came to shop and took the opportunity to have a beer or even stay for lunch", said Mata.

Local producers
The mayoress thanked the local establishments that participated in the fair. The stars of the cooking demonstrations were Mijas chefs Domi González, from DAK Burguer and Seixis; Salvio Cantón, from La Catedral; Guadalupe Rodríguez, from El Panal de la Reina; and Miguel Escalona, representing Mesura. "We are grateful for their involvement. They were part of the show cooking demonstrations, showing how we can apply and enjoy these skills in our own homes, but also giving us the chance to consume what is made here in our municipality, in Mijas”, said the mayoress, who emphasised that Sabor a Málaga “is an excellent tool to support Málaga producers and promote employment".

Showcase
Finally, Mata pointed out that the Sabor a Málaga brand is expanding more and more, thanks to the close collaboration between the administrations, the Provincial Council and local town halls such as Mijas. She added that the event provides greater visibility for producers across the province. “We must back local products, sustainability, and the local market, so that we can all enjoy natural, local, and authentic products”, the mayoress affirmed. She concluded by noting that “the fair has had a very positive economic impact, and I am grateful to all the people who dedicated themselves throughout the weekend, giving their very best”. Finally, she announced that she will continue supporting the organisation of events like this “to revitalise the city’s economic fabric”.
