The work of AFA Mijas does not go unnoticed. More and more organisations and individuals are choosing to support its cause, which is none other than helping Alzheimer's patients and their families. One of them is the Peña Santana, which on Friday 26th presented a cheque worth 200 euros to the association. Moreover, this is not the first time it has carried out this initiative. "Last year, the idea arose to collaborate with a local group, and it was decided to collaborate with AFA, as it is a very active group in Mijas. We thought it would be a good idea, and this year we are doing it again", said Laura Marfil, a young member of the peña, who was present at the presentation, which took place at the day centre. "We are very aware of this group, which is very involved in Mijas and with the people of Mijas", added the president of the Peña Santana, Juanfra Aguilera.
The amount was raised from the proceeds obtained during the bars set up at different celebrations, "from the fete we organised in August and also a from the fair , as we were at the Municipal Booth", said Aguilera. "The truth is that we spend many hours behind the bar, but we always do it for the enjoyment of the public and also to be able to collaborate", explained the club's treasurer, Pepi Machuca, who added that "when we finish the event, with what we have raised, we decide that a part should go to a group; in this case, we have once again chosen AFA". Although they spend many hours behind the bar, as Laura Marfil pointed out, "if you can help, it's always good, and besides, we have a great time behind the bar".
Cognitive stimulation workshop
AFA Mijas thanks the Mijas club for their gesture. The 200 euros has already been allocated and will benefit the 25 users served by the association. "This helps us, because this type of donation also makes us more visible", said Mari Carmen López, psychologist and director of the AFA Mijas Day Centre, who went on to point out that "we are grateful to the Peña Santana for this second donation. They already collaborated with us last year, and this year they wanted to collaborate again with this small contribution. We are going to allocate it to the cognitive stimulation workshop that we run here for our elderly people, which benefits all our users".
AFA Mijas also points out that the centre is full, in fact, there is a waiting list, and emphasises that the work they do is extremely important, "because every year the number of diagnosed cases of Alzheimer's continues to increase and working in the early stages is vital", concluded López.
