The Mijas Town Hall and Acosol are making progress in improving the water supply in the municipality with the expansion of the supply project in the Majadilla del Muerto area. According to the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP), this expansion responds to a commitment made to residents in the area: "This infrastructure will be extended, as will the commitment that was initially agreed with around 238 residents and which now includes a further 30 or so residents of Mijas", said Mata.
This second phase of the project has been launched in response to the incorporation of more residents who wish to benefit from the service. "During the implementation, and now that this first phase has been completed, it has become clear that there are additional needs. These needs have arisen because some residents who initially did not consider it as appropriate have changed their minds and now wish to join the project" explained the delegate of Acosol, Matilde Mancha. That is the current status of this initiative, which “has been practically approved by the community of owners, pending the incorporation of these last few residents. As soon as this happens, we will begin this final phase, which will take approximately two months to complete", clarified Mancha.

The works are being carried out by Acosol, which is providing the financing, to be fully covered by the residents themselves through instalments. The cost of the first phase of the work was 1,427,000 euros, according to the delegate. With the second phase, the cost of the works amounts to 1,598,000 euros, including VAT.
Monitoring committee
This and other matters, such as the state of water supply and infrastructure in the municipality, the digitisation of the service, drought management and preventive maintenance of facilities and sewers, were discussed during the monitoring committee meeting held on Monday 15th at the Mijas Town Hall between the mayoress, municipal technicians and Acosol. In summary, these are "some of the issues we have addressed and others we will look at in due course. This committee intends to meet every month, so the next meeting will be in October to discuss matters affecting the whole municipality. This committee enables us to continue working together to improve the water supply and sewerage system", concluded Mata.
