Cuban culture is distinguished by its vitality and diversity, reflected in its music, art and customs. It is an authentic expression of identity that comes to life in festivals full of colour and rhythm. One such festival is the 'Old Havana Fest', which "will be held in the Virgen de la Peña square in Mijas Pueblo from the 31st of July to the 4th of August", announced the councillor for Festivities, Silvia Marín (PP). This festival marks the end of "the cycle we have been celebrating both in La Cala and Las Lagunas with the Gastrolatino festival, in this case with a tribute to Old Havana", added the councillor, who predicts "success and fun" in equal measure.

Salsa, mambo, bolero and rumba will fill the heart of Mijas Pueblo to the delight of residents and visitors alike. From 19:30 hours, Thursday to Sunday, everyone will also be able to enjoy cuisine not only from Cuba, but from many other parts of Latin America. "The important thing", according to Rafael Urquiza from Producciones Raíces, "is that we will have that Cuban spirit, with food trucks from Cuba and other Latin American countries, and an excellent team of musicians", including a tribute to the renowned Cuban orchestra Los Van Van.

According to Urquiza, "it is a festival through which we aim to bring together all cultures. Although it is based on Cuban culture, it’s a truly heart-warming event". Visitors will experience authentic Cuba because “we’re going to recreate, as far as possible, the city of Havana in Mijas Pueblo", promised Rafael Urquiza.

Shuttle bus

The Mijas Town Hall has also arranged a shuttle bus service to make parking easier for attendees. "I would like to inform residents and visitors that they can take the shuttle bus, which will run every day with a special service until 3:00 hours, so that they can comfortably drive to the quarry and go up and down to the Virgen de la Peña square", said Marín.

So now you know, if you dream of spending a few days in authentic Old Havana, letting yourself be carried away by the music along the recreated Malecón and immersing yourself in the traditions of a unique island culture, there's no need to cross the ocean, just come to Mijas Pueblo. "Mijeños, we're here and we're going to enjoy our culture. We hope to see you soon", said Urquiza.
