For the second consecutive year, Mijas was the setting on Saturday 26th for the closing concert of the 6th Malaga International Piano Festival, held with the participation of the Malaga Symphony Orchestra. Nine students, selected through a rigorous process, performed works by great composers such as Mozart and Beethoven. It was undoubtedly a treat for the senses of the audience who attended the event at the Manuel España Theatre in Las Lagunas.
"It's a great festival because it gives young talents the opportunity to play, study and interact with one another. Within the competition held during the festival, the prize of performing with the Málaga Symphony Orchestra is a major milestone for the students. And the significance of the festival concluding here in Mijas is huge, because culture is always a great investment in the future. We must thank the Mijas Culture Department and the Provincial Council for making this possible”, said guest conductor Rubén Díez.
Mijas, with culture
The councillor for Culture in Mijas, Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), also highlighted the importance of hosting an event of this calibre in Mijas: "In this case, we would like to thank the Malaga Symphony Orchestra for bringing the 6th International Piano Festival here for the second consecutive year. It is a sign of our commitment to culture in Mijas and of the relationship we have with the orchestra and with the cultural world in general. This concert is undoubtedly a great opportunity to enjoy classical music and the truth is, there is a great deal of talent here".
"It is an honour and a pleasure for us to be in Mijas for the second year running. We would like to thank the Department of Culture and the mayoress, Ana Mata, for giving us the opportunity to be here. This festival begins in Malaga and ends here with a grand finale, where highly talented students, selected in advance, and the Malaga Symphony Orchestra come together to make this concert possible. We are also very grateful to the Malaga Provincial Council", added the festival director, Daniel Ábalos.
Young talents
In the run-up to its closing, the festival featured a variety of activities across several municipalities, including masterclasses, an international competition, a concert series and a performance by the Malaga Symphony Orchestra. Without a doubt, this is a unique opportunity for the students of FIPMA'25 (Malaga International Piano Festival).
"Being at this festival is a real source of pride, and the whole process, selecting the piece and playing with this orchestra, is always incredible", said student David Coromina. Another young student, Antonio Sánchez, expressed a similar view: "The truth is, it's a unique experience because you don't get the chance to play with orchestras every day. It’s something that only comes along occasionally, and you have to make the most of it".
A luxurious repertoire
The concert repertoire included pieces by Beethoven and Mozart. A real treat for classical music lovers and a cultural highlight for summer evenings in Mijas.
