The Mijas Town Hall will provide training in new technologies for senior citizens in the municipality. This was announced on Monday by the councillor for Senior Citizens, Silvia Marín (PP), who explained that the initiative comes from the Cibervoluntarios Foundation and the AEB Foundation of the Spanish Banking Association (AEB), with the support of the Ministry of Social Rights, Consumption and Agenda 2030.

The course, called Expertclick, is a training programme designed to provide elderly people with the tools they need to take full advantage of the benefits offered by new technologies in order to improve their quality of life. The elderly will learn how to navigate the internet safely and confidently and how to use their mobile phones or tablets to make video calls, to carry out banking transactions, make doctor's appointments, shop online and to make the most of their leisure time on the internet. The aim, they emphasise, is to enhance their independence and autonomy when communicating, carrying out administrative tasks and participating actively in society, thereby improving their self-esteem and promoting active and healthy ageing.

"In an increasingly technological world, it is very important that our senior citizens learn how to use technology. That is why I encourage everyone to participate in these sessions, which are, of course, free of charge", concluded the councillor.

The courses will last four hours, divided into two in-person sessions. During this time, users will learn how to use creative leisure and communication tools, such as how to set up and use a mobile phone safely from the start, manage contacts, make calls and send messages, as well as other useful tools such as the calendar. They will also learn how to connect to the internet and download and use useful applications for making video calls, such as WhatsApp, or for creative leisure activities such as visiting virtual museums, listening to music and podcasts, and reading books, among other things. In addition, they will learn about useful tools for carrying out procedures and making secure purchases online, such as digital certificates, the importance of electronic signatures, and how to make a doctor's appointment, among other examples.

Registration

The various training activities will take place in the three centres, on the 27th of May and 3rd of June at the Las Lagunas Active Participation Centre; on the 28th of May and 4th of June at the Virgen de la Peña Active Participation Centre; and on the 29th of May and 5th of June at the La Cala Senior Citizens' Centre. All sessions will be from 10:00 to 12:00 hours. To participate, you must register at the Senior Citizens' Offices in MIjas or by calling 649 87 30 51 or 696 56 31 89.
