The mayoress of Mijas and councillor for Family and Equal Opportunities, Ana Mata (PP), was in charge of presenting on Thursday 27th the full programme of activities that has been organised for International Women's Day, which is commemorated on the 8th of March. The main event will take place on that day with the reading of the institutional manifesto and the celebration of the XVII Gala Mijas en Femenino.
‘Not only as mayoress, but also as councillor for Family and Equal Opportunities and, above all, as a woman, 8M is a key date in the calendar. For this reason, we are presenting a very diverse programme of activities in which a large number groups from Mijas have been involved. We have a large network of women's associations, which is why the joint work carried out by the Town Hall and these associations is key to break down inequalities and strive for the equality that we deserve as a society", said Ana Mata.
‘Mujeres sin +’
The programme organised by the Mijas Town Hall includes up to 13 activities from the 3rd to the 10th of March, under the slogan ‘Mujeres sin +’, "but this does not mean that during the 365 days of the year the Department of Family and Equal Opportunities is not working together with the other departments. Equality policies must always be developed in a cross-cutting manner in each and every one of the departments that our Town Hall has", stressed the mayoress of Mijas.

- Mata también destaca el trabajo conjunto entre Ayuntamiento y colectivos de mujeres en pro de la igualdad.

It will take place from 12:00 hours in the Manuel España Theatre.
Regarding 8M, the mayoress said that as every year "we will acknowledge women who are leaving their mark in our municipality and who contribute to the fact that we are getting closer and closer to breaking those stereotypes of inequality that still exist between men and women, those differences that have always condemned and continue to condemn women in many countries".
Raising awareness
Mata stressed that all the activities around 8M are aimed at society as a whole: "Although some specific activities are aimed specifically at women, the aim is that in general all families participate, and in many schools and institutions 8M is also worked on with boys and girls". Mata recalled that all activities are free and open to the public and, in relation to the gala ‘Mijas en Femenino’, "we invite all men and all women to participate".
Finally, on Monday 10th of March, from 17:30 to 19:00 hours at the Youth Centre, the workshop ‘Coloreando la igualdad' (Colouring equality), a round table of mandalas and reflection, will take place.
Acknowledgements
Finally, the mayoress praised the "important work" carried out all year round by the women's associations in the municipality. "I always thank all the women's associations for their work, their support and for always getting involved in all these international days, because together with the Town Hall they always work for the people of Mijas and Mijas". "I always say that without the support of the social entities, and in this case without the support of the women's associations, it would be impossible to reach all those situations that women face, some easier and others more complicated", she added.
