The 5th Costa Cross Country Championship was held on Wednesday 12th at St. Anthony's School in Mijas, which hosted this competition for young people. The aim of the event is to promote sport and encourage contact with other international schools on the Costa del Sol. The British school brought together 400 young athletes for the competition which was held on a circuit in the field behind the school. Students from 12 schools competed in the race in age groups ranging from 11 to 18 years old.
One of the organisers, Alfonso Arriaga, said: "We have been organising it at the school for five years now and it has become a tradition. We are very happy to host and welcome all the schools in the area, both British and Swedish, and we invite them to come here and compete with us".

The cross country event took place in the surroundings of the school, in the countryside and in the open air. The aim is for the young people to get to know different sports in order to find the one that best suits them and to promote the values of coexistence and social interaction among these kids. According to Arriaga, "all these schools know each other from previous competitions, we have already made friends. The aim is for each child to find their favourite sport or one in which they can excel. The values of sport are very present here".
The circuit was 1 km long. Depending on their age, the participants did one, two or three laps. For them this event was an opportunity for them to have fun and socialise, where the values of sport and comradeship were present at all times. The race had a medical service from the Red Cross and a physiotherapist for all those who needed it.

Motivation
The participants were very motivated and happy to take part in this activity. Sam Braber, one of the participants, said that "I have done this circuit many times and I love it. It's a very special day, to share with other international schools that come to enjoy it. We all love this activity. I like all sports, especially running, it's very good for the body and mind". Another participant from the school, Carmen Benito, said, "I have been competing for several years. It is a very positive experience and I love to share with many people. Sport is one of my great hobbies so the event is perfect. This is a very fun day and I really enjoy it".
