A 75 year old man from Mijas had to be taken on Thursday 6th by helicopter to a hospital in Malaga after being hit by a lorry. The incident took place after 9.30 hours on the Camino de Coín, near the local police headquarters. According to police sources, the impact occurred when the man was crossing the zebra crossing before the police headquarters and the BP petrol station. The investigation into the accident is in the hands of the local police, who will determine the causes of the accident. Once they have completed their investigations, they will send the report with their conclusions to the court in charge of the case.
The first person to assist the victim was an off-duty nurse from Fuengirola, whose initials are P.C.B., who helped the man until the medical services arrived to stabilise him.

According to police sources, the man was first treated on the open area near the Mijas Local Police Headquarters, in Calle Río Genal, where he remained until the arrival of the medical helicopter at around 10:40 hours. The man, who remained conscious until he was sedated by the medics, had serious injuries to both legs and his left arm, and was taken to the Regional University Hospital in Malaga.
Local Police and Guardia Civil officers also proceeded to identify the driver of the lorry and check the vehicle's documentation, which was in order. The alcohol test carried out on the man was negative. The driver reportedly claimed "not to have seen the pedestrian". The officers were also in charge of regulating traffic in the area and reported the matter to the court.
