Just as we do to get our driving licences, this programme includes theoretical classes and their respective tests, as well as practical lessons at the Las Lagunas Road Safety Park, where, about 40 students in the sixth year of primary from the Indira Gandhi school attended on Thursday 21st.
One of the participants, Salma Sánchez, said that "these classes are useful to learn the traffic rules, something that will come in handy when I get my driving licence". Her classmate Emilia Lupo agreed with her and said: "I really enjoyed the activity". Another student, Uriel Domato, explained that he has a scooter, "so this activity will help me to ride properly through the streets".
In order to learn the rules and put them into practice, these students went around the park playing various roles, as explained by Jorge Aguado who said that "I played a cyclist, a policeman and a pedestrian". For his part, Ulises Casado highlighted everything he has learnt about driving, "such as that the blue circles give mandatory instructions". Gonzalo Mota also learned a lot of new signs, "such as the meaning of the give away sign, and that the red ones mean prohibition".
The road safety education programme aims to make our children good drivers and pedestrians and, of course, to avoid accidents. This was underlined by the councillor for Transport and Mobility of the Mijas Town Hall, Marco Cortés (PP), who explained that "these children will move on to secondary school next year, and some of them will use bicycles and scooters to get around".
This year, about 1,200 students will be taking these classes, which, as well as being fun, are a guarantee of life. "The activity is so successful that this year a neighbouring municipality, a school in Marbella, has requested the activity, and they have done so because this activity is very strong and has a very high educational and formative value", concluded Cortés.
All schools in the municipality will participate in this programme, which will run until spring.
