The land available for the construction of the housing units has already been defined, which total almost 36,000 m2

The Mijas Town Hall, through the Town Planning Department, has already planned the plots of land for the construction of public housing. There are four plots of land totalling 35,908.72 square metres where 557 housing units of this type are planned. This was announced last Thursday 24th by the mayoress of the municipality, Ana Mata (PP),  together with the deputy mayors Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox) and Juan Carlos Maldonado (PMP), and the councillor for Town Planning, Lourdes Burgos (PP).

Mata explained that work is underway to draw up the necessary specifications for private companies to develop the corresponding projects, within the parameters established therein, something that could become a reality in 2025. The mayoress described public-private collaboration as “essential for initiatives like this one‘’ and also indicated that, once the different projects are presented, ‘’they will be given priority processing status due to their social interest”.

Locations

As for the sites, the first of the plots is located around Lomas del Real with an area of 3,050.42 square metres where 33 homes are planned; 8,196.30 square metres in the area of Parque Lagunas, located on the outskirts of Avenida Andalucía, where 252 homes are planned; and 18,931 square metres in the area known as Ensanche de La Cala for 232 homes. In addition, there is the so-called Finca el Maro, which includes 40 housing units on a surface area of 5,731m2 and which will be developed directly by the Town Hall. The properties will be for rent and for sale.

Register of Applicants for Housing

With regard to the Register of Applicants for Housing, Mata recalled that it is still open and added that “it is essential to determine the real need for subsidised housing in the municipality”. This is a list where those interested in accessing subsidised housing must provide their full details, as well as their social situation and financial information.

“In the interests of administrative simplification we are working to speed up the process”, said the government team, “so the ordinance will be modified so that registration can be done by providing a responsible declaration, so that interested parties will only have to submit the complete documentation once they are awarded a subsidised housing unit”, concluded the government team.
