The Mijas Town Hall has put out to tender the drafting of several projects, such as the creation of a new cultural space in La Puente, one of the most popular and emblematic places in Mijas Pueblo. The initial price of this tender is 20,134.40 euros and the maximum deadline for the delivery of the project is 90 days. 

The tender includes that the winning company must be in charge of the drafting of the basic renovation and execution project, as well as the health and safety study for the La Puente building. This area is located between the streets Coín and Fuente del Algarrobo, where there was a building that was demolished. 

The most characteristic feature of this place, where the building once stood, is that currently only the barrel vault that creates a passageway remains, so the intention of the government team is to create a new building in the image and likeness of the one that stood there and was demolished in the 1980s. In fact, it should be noted that La Puente has great historical value, as it is an architectural element included in the General Catalogue of the Historical Heritage of Andalusia. For these reasons, the awardee of the project, which must be delivered within a maximum period of 90 days, must include a report, blueprints so that the work is properly defined, technical specifications to describe and regulate the execution, as well as the contractor’s obligations, a budget, a work plan, a report of the reconstruction work and a health and safety study.

Cultural purposes 

The objective, according to the Town Planning and Historical Heritage councillor, Lourdes Burgos (PP), is to make use of the plot, on the one hand to preserve the historical image of the town with a façade on Calle La Cantera and Fuente del Algarrobo and, on the other, to locate a space for cultural purposes with a permanent exhibition hall that includes the most relevant archaeological materials found, for example, in the gardens of La Muralla and in the Cortijo de Acebedo, together with an exhibition of photographs of the period. 

“La Puente is a landmark in our municipality, so recovering it, and giving it a cultural purpose, is essential for us. Once this new space has been created, we will have another attraction to visit Mijas Pueblo and at the same time to get to know our roots, our history”, explained the Mayoress, Ana Mata (PP), on Thursday 19th.

Cementery

On the other hand, the councillor for Infrastructures, Juan José Torres Trella (PP), announced that the drafting of the project to reform and extend the facilities of the municipal cemetery has also been put out to public tender. In this case, the initial price of the tender is 25,833.50 euros and the deadline to deliver the project is 90 days.

The aim is to have the necessary project to “incorporate new funeral parlours and rooms, as the current ones are insufficient and small. We also want to work on extending the parking area”, explained the councillor, who pointed out that new offices, cold storage and an oven for exhumations (burning of clothes and belongings) are also planned.

 

Other projects

The refurbishment of the Miguel González Berral auditorium has also been put out to tender, for just over 45,000 euros, “where some changes are going to be made to the layout of the spaces and the seating area is going to be increased”, explained Torres Trella, while the mayoress stressed that the most important action planned at this point will be the installation of a retractable roof, “because it is a large venue for events, but not only during the summer when the temperature is good, but also during the rest of the year”. 

 

The government team has also earmarked around 41,000 euros for the drafting of the project to improve the Employment Promotion building in Las Lagunas, “very frequented by job seekers and above all by citizens who want to improve their training, so we think they have to do it in the best conditions and that is why we have promoted this much needed action”, said the mayoress of Mijas. For his part, the councillor for Infrastructures said that “in this building we will do different maintenance and improvement works, both on the outside and in the classrooms and common areas inside”.
