Mijas cuenta con cuatro playas adaptadas.

Every week, a group from the Association of People with Disabilities of Mijas spends the morning at El Torreón beach in La Cala de Mijas

Mijas has four beaches with adapted bathing areas: El Chaparral, El Bombo, La Luna and El Torreón. In addition to receiving users from Mijas as well as tourists on a daily basis, a group from Adimi also attends every week. This is one of the favourite activities of these people, as it gives them a very positive experience.

One of the caregivers of the Association of People with Disabilities of Mijas (Adimi), Rafi Roser, told us that it gives them, "above all, quality of life. It is very important for them to come to the beach, to sunbathe, to swim. We come once a week during the summer and it's true that you can see the mood in which they come back to the centre".

During the summer period, while the lifeguard service is present on the beaches, Adimi users have a place reserved to spend the morning in a different way. "In total, around 12 users come during the summer. Sometimes we come with a smaller group because they are more dependent, and other times with a larger group because they are more independent", Rafi pointed out.

For their part, the users claim to enjoy the beach days, the company and the way the instructors treat them.  This is what Guillermo Adrián Tomba told us: "I really like going out with my colleagues to the beach and helping them as much as I can". Javier Torres de la Encina added: "I really like coming to the beach on Fridays with the instructors".

In fact, they are so good at the beach that they want to keep coming back. Rafa León said it clearly: ‘"It's great on the beach, I hope to come many more days".

There are also those who take the opportunity to ask for even more activities. This is the case of María Teresa García, who made these requests: "I want to go to the cinema, I want to do more activities at the centre and I want to dance, I really like bachata. I just like to do more things for fun".

To be able to enjoy the adapted bathing area, the following requirements are necessary: "To start with, you need a reduced mobility card and you also have to book two days in advance", said the person in charge of the adapted bathing area at La Cala beach, Eire Crespo. She added that the equipment available in these areas are "the amphibious chairs, the patient lifting equipment, the crutches and the transfer board". Everything is ready to make sure that the users hace a great day on the beach.
