  • El turismo internacional sigue siendo muy importante para la provincia en el mes de julio, ocupando el 70% del total.

The Costa del Sol Hotel Entrepreneurs Association (Aehcos) has released the hotel occupancy figures for the coast of Malaga during the month of July, placing the figure for Mijas at 91.15 percent and thus exceeding initial forecasts.

In this way, Mijas becomes, after Benalmádena, the second leading municipality on the Costa del Sol, as it is one of the few to exceed 90 percent occupancy. Compared to the same month last year, the occupancy rate has increased by 0.83 per cent.

"These figures reflect the excellent tourism sector and the extensive offer we have, which is outstanding thanks to our environment and the efforts made by the professionals in the tourism and hotel industry. And added that Mijas has an unrivalled destination, which offers a unique experience and awakens all the senses”, said the mayoress of Mijas, Ana Mata (PP).

The mayoress also stressed that, since the beginning of the year, Mijas has registered very positive occupancy rates, even higher than in 2023, "and the forecasts for the month of August also shows a positive trend, because almost 80 percent occupancy is expected, although the figure could increase with last minute bookings and national tourists, who tend to take their holidays during the eighth month of the year".

Visitors at the tourist offices

During the month of July, the tourist offices in Mijas Pueblo and La Cala received a total of 9,959 people, of which 3,418 were Spanish, 1,686 British and 1,067 from France.

So far this year, according to the Mijas Town Hall Tourism Department, nearly 84,000 people have requested some kind of information at these municipal facilities, 28 percent of whom are Spanish.

Hotel occupancy in the province

In its report, Aehcos highlights that hotel occupancy during the month of July in the province of Malaga was 86.66%. This percentage is 2.03 points higher than the figure obtained in the same month in 2023, when 84.63% was recorded.

International tourism continues to be very important for the province in July, accounting for 70% of the total, while national tourism accounts for the remaining 30%. However, there has been a certain slowdown in bookings during July for the end of the month and for the month of August caused by the domestic toursim.

International tourism continues to be very for the province in July, occupying 70% of the total, while national tourist represent the remaining 30%. However, there has been a certain slowdown in bookings during the end of July and for the month of August caused by the domestic market.

The forecasts for the coming months are estimated to be uncertain with the slowdown of the domestic market bookings. The Hotel Entrepreneurs Association expects an 85.39% occupation rate for August. This figure is still slightly below that obtained in August 2023 (88.44%) but "last minute bookings and the expected boost of the domestic market, which historically books stays during the eighth month of the year, must be taken into account", said from Aehcos Executive Committe.

The destinations with the highest occupancy in August would be: Benalmadena (97.59%), Torremolinos (90.36%), Frigiliana-Torrox (87.55%) and Malaga Capital (86.46%). Finally, Aehcos has released its forecasts for September for which it expects hotel occupancy to reach, for the moment, 82.82%
