The workshop organised by the Department for Citizen Participation ‘Tejiendo redes en internet’ held yesterday an initiation session for four groups of the municipality. The aim of the workshop is to guide the associations and groups of Mijas with regard to social media so that they can promote their activities and actions on the internet.

The Department  has scheduled several sessions within this course, as there are still groups that don’t use these tools to promote their activities. 

As the councillor for the department, Silvia Marín (PP), explained, "we realised that there were beginners in this area, I am referring to the collectives, because perhaps they do use social media for personal purposes but not to give their collectives a greater presence". 

Through this training, the groups from Mijas learn how social media work and tips on how to improve communication with citizens. This was summarised by Juana Barrera, a technician from the Department of Citizen Participation, who said that “we try to explain these concepts in an easy language, and added that they have seen a lot of interest, especially because the collectives are having more followers and can even attract more members". 

One of the participants was Mariola López, president of the Neighbourhood Association of Camino de Las Cañadas, who said that "this class helps us to use social media effectively, to keep up to date with the latest news, and to reach more people", and added that as the association has many elderly users" we still spread our information and activities by mailbox".

The first session of the course was held last week and was attended by some twenty groups interested in recruiting more members or promoting their work. Further editions of this workshop are already planned.
