Last Friday 5th of july, the third round of the Mijas Sun & Golf Tour took place at the Cerrado del Águila Club. Around 40 golfers participated in this competition, but the scratch winner was José Carlos Villaespesa.
This nine-hole course tested the players' skills and experience, as well as their ability to keep a level head. As Villaespesa explained, "the course is small, strategic and fun, you have to think before hitting the ball".
For his part, the organiser of the tournament, Luis Navarro, explained that "it is a course in which all the holes are different, it has three par 3's, there is water, movement, there is absolutely everything".
Villaespesa, who was the scratch winner, and fifth in the first category, finished with a total of 33 points and 73 strokes.
The organisation highlighted the female participation in this tournament, which aims to include the ladies. Jeannine Rehlinger was the winner. Along with her, María Cecilia Martín-Caro, second; and Aurelia Martín, third.
This circuit is supported by the Mijas Town Hall. As explained by the Councillor for Tourism, Francisco Jere"the Town Hall wanted to help the golf courses in the low season, as well as giving local players the opportunity to participate in summer tournaments".
In the second men's category, the top three were Piotr Mieczyslaw, Alonso Luque and Francisco Zaragoza. The winner of the first category was Clemente Castillo, followed by Sven Leiner and Gabriel Fraile.
The next round of this tour will take place in La Noria, on the 19th of July.
