Mijas Town Hall has created a new temporary parking area in Barrio Santana. The government team has improved and levelled a municipal plot located next to the secondary school Villa de Mijas which will allow the parking of about 50 vehicles, thus responding to a historical neighbourhood demand.

The local government has been working over the last few weeks on this municipally owned space, which has an approximate surface area of 1,000 square metres.

  • La parcela se ha adecentado, contando además con señalización y alumbrado público.

As the councillor for Infrastructures and Works, Juan José Torres Trella, explained, "this area was full of bushes and was uneven, which meant that work had to be done on clearing, levelling and lighting". He also thanked the Department for Cleanliness, Operational Services and Public Roads for installing the signs.

The measure responds to a demand that the residents of the Barrio Santana have been making for years. However, the councillor for Works said that "this is a temporary solution as the idea of the government team is to build a municipal car park in the upper or lower part of this neighbourhood". The 2024 budget, assured Torres Trella, includes an item for the drafting of this project.

As the councillor of the department explained,"building the definitive car park will take some time, which is why, given the need of the residents, we have set up a provisional parking area for the residents".

Movimiento Santana, a neighbourhood group created a few months ago to demand more parking in Mijas Pueblo, have appreciated this initiative, as it alleviates the lack of parking spaces in Mijas village.

The head of Movimiento Santana, José María García, explained that "in summer the situation is worse and it is more difficult to park, because many people come to their second home in Mijas".

Both the Town Hall and the neighbourhood movement are calling for responsibility when it comes to using this new area.
