Sitio de Calahonda brings together its neighbours for a pleasant day of coexistence

  • It took place on Saturday 29th of June in the main park of the urbanisation
  • El encuentro se desarrolló en el parque Vivero de Calahonda.

The event, which included children's games and live music, also served to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the town planning entity

The neighbours from Sitio de Calahonda celebrated last Saturday 29th June their traditional day of coexistence in the Vivero Park, one of the main recreational areas of the urbanisation. The afternoon began with a series of children's and popular games, and continued with live music by the band MásQu3Perros.

Many families from Calahonda joined in this open air party to welcome the summer in the best way, in good company, with music and having a good time. "I come almost every year because there is always a good atmosphere. I've lived here for 32 years, since I was born, and I really like it, and I'll stay here for a long time", said the neighbour Cristina Sisí. Another neighbour, Gema Ocaña, said she is "originally from Marbella but I've been here in Calahonda for 15 years and I already feel like another Mijeña, I'm delighted". Her friend, Mari Luz Martínez, also said "I have a great time here in Calahonda and in Mijas, because it has beautiful beaches, a very good climate and it feels like home, I come from Costa Rica".

  • El buen ambiente familiar marcó toda la jornada.

The Collaborating Town Planning Entity (EUC) Sitio de Calahonda, organisers of this meeting, also took the opportunity to commemorate its 60th anniversary with the residents and to review what has been achieved in this urbanisation, one of the fastest growing in the municipality. "I grew up here, in fact, I used to play on Avenida de España, where only one car a day would pass by, so imagine how much Sitio de Calahonda has changed, which now has around 7,000 properties and is almost a village", said Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson (Vox), the councillor for Residential Areas at Mijas Town Hall.

For his part, the president of the EUC Sitio de Calahonda, César Contreras, said that "in recent years we have worked hard to have more services provided by the Town Hall, the long awaited reception, because we do not receive the same services as those who live in town centres despite the fact that we pay the same taxes, but we are still fighting for it". In this respect, the councillor for Residential Areas responded that "it is logical what they are demanding, for example, regarding the roads, because they are public and it is up to the Town Hall to maintain them, but there must be a reception and a legal process, and we are working hard on this and it is one of my main challenges as councillor, although it seems that we are already starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel".

In addition to spending time with the neighbours, the councillors from Mijas Town Hall who attended the meeting also took note of the needs raised by the urbanisation to improve public roads, lighting and security in the area, among other things. "From the Town Hall we also hope to have the maximum collaboration from the town planning entity, which we have to congratulate for this anniversary but above all for the work they do 365 days a year in this area", said the PP councillor of the government team, Lourdes Burgos. Likewise, the socialist councillor Roy Pérez valued that "this type of event allows us to get closer to citizens who live in this area and who have different nationalities, such as Italians, French, English, Germans... They can also take advantage of this moments to get to know each other".
