This Friday, 21st of June, a new edition of the Festival Velero Flamenco organised by the Peña Unión del Cante will be held. From 22:00 hours, singing, guitar playing and dancing will begin under the sponsorship of the hotel La Zambra. This is the first time in Mijas that public and private initiatives have joined hands to support this flamenco festival, which is now in its 35th edition.
"We have a programme featuring Rosi Navarro, a singer from Malaga better known as La Divi, accompanied on guitar by Juan Ramón Caro, one of the most popular guitarists nowadays, born in Barcelona and based in Álora", said Diego Morilla, president of the peña. "The other big name is Iván Segura, who is visiting this peña for the first time, known as Chaskío, from Alicante", concluded Morilla.
Sponsorship
"La Zambra, in the end, is a type of flamenco that we highly appreciate and we transmit these values that Andalusia has and one of them is flamenco and having this festival close by has led us to promote it internally so that the hotel guests can also enjoy it, as we do with other events in which we also collaborate with the Mijas Town Hall", said Joost Kruissen, general manager of the hotel La Zambra.
The Department for Culture also acts as a link to strengthen ties with tourism by supporting one of the most important flamenco festivals in the municipality. "I have to thank the hotel La Zambra for this sponsorship and this commitment to our culture, this public-private partnership is important because the Mijas tourist destination is nourished and strengthened by this collaboration; the hotel La Zambra is committed to our culture, to our gastronomy and to Mijas", said Juan Carlos Maldonado, councillor for Culture.
