They are looking for companies that promote sustainable food. This is the call made by the 3rd Soroptimist Nourish Your Optimism Award, as the organisation presented yesterday, 17th of June, coinciding with the World Day for the Fight Against Desertification and Drought 2024, as this situation directly affects agriculture and livestock farming.
"We are looking for companies or organisations that are working towards a more sustainable food system and we want the people of Mijas to nominate candidates," said Daphne Theunissen, president of Soroptimist International Costa del Sol.
Soroptimist International, Costa Women, the Department for Foreigners of Mijas, Justicia Alimentaria, Red Cross, Sabor a Málaga and the Aula del Mar Foundation are collaborating in this competition for food health. The idea is that we can all propose organisations or companies that are promoting organic food or are involved in sustainable food and local products.
About the awards
The aim of these awards is also to raise awareness about the need to improve our health, as is being increasingly affected by the consumption of fast and plasticised products that are extremely harmful to us. Entries are open until the 20th of September. Five categories have been established: agriculture and distribution, food production, awareness and education, technology and innovation, and catering.
The artisan workshop Alfajar will be in charge of the awards. The jury is made up of the five partner organisations mentioned above. "We have a form on our Soroptimist website that you can fill in with the candidate that you think can participate this year", said Ana Skou, member of Soroptimist International Costa del Sol.
The winners will be announced and will receive their prizes on Thursday 17th of October at the Mijas Town Hall, where each organisation will present their work and the awareness they apply on a daily basis.
