The councillor for Security, Juan Carlos Cuevas Dawson, assures that this service was interrupted due to the "lack of concern of the previous government team"

The councillor for Citizen Security of Mijas town hall, Juan Carlos Cuevas (Vox), announced this Tuesday the implementation of the Integrated System of Operational Management, Analysis and Citizen Security (SIGO), after solving the administrative and technical problems that had interrupted its service. It is a tool that facilitates the connection and information on traffic, identification of number plates, vehicles reported stolen, criminal records and wanted persons. "It has been operative for the last ten days", said the councillor, "strengthening security and efficiency in the management of the municipality's police force. I was extremely perplexed when I found out that this service had not been available for almost a year, since May 2023, due to the lack of concern of the previous government team, as there was a debt with Telefónica when they changed provider, they cut the service, a service that costs 56 euros a month, so that you know, a special router that connects with the Guardia Civil and with the operating system", he explained.

This system, according to Cuevas Dawson, also improves the safety of the police officers themselves and, of course, the safety of citizens, as "our police officers used to have to make calls to other police headquarters such as Fuengirola, Marbella or even the Guardia Civil to access essential information. This not only put the safety of the officers at risk when approaching vehicles without prior information, but also meant a significant loss of time, which affected the efficiency of the interventions. The left-wing is always talking about job security, but put yourself in the shoes of a policeman, who has to identify a person without knowing the background of that driver, that for me was paramount", he said. To conclude, the councillor said that they are still working daily to improve the service of the Local Police of Mijas and the one given to the people of Mijas, so the government team has allocated an economic item from the extension of the municipal budget of 2024, approved last week in the plenary session, and that will be aimed to the installation of surveillance cameras in the city, a change of the police communications system or noise measurement, among other measures.
